Château Batailley is one of the oldest buildings in Pauillac. The name of this land comes from the battles that took place during the 14th century on the plateau which gives access to the nearby Château Latour. The 2001 exhibits a deep ruby, purple colour with elegant black and red currant flavours. Notes of cigar box, pepper and spices lead to hints of liquorice and earth on the finish. Drink now - 2014.

Les Vins de Vienne is the result of a partnership between three of the Rhône's top growers, Yves Cuilleron, Pierre Gaillard and François Villard, and their wines are regarded as representing the essence of each vineyard area. Made from 100% Syrah, this wine has a deep violet core with intense cassis and blackberry on the nose. The finish is long and silky with hints of spice.

Coming from low yielding bush vines, these Garnacha grapes are grown high in the hills above Tarragona, enjoying this ideal location. Light red in colour with a pink edge, the wine shows concentrated fruit with hints of pepper and spice on the finish. Soft, smooth, easy drinking makes it perfect with a good steak and kidney or shepherd's pie.

A medium-bodied Pinot Noir with soft tannins and good crisp acidity. The grapes are sourced from the Vars region which is well placed to receive maximum sunshine throughout the summer but remains quite cool during spring time.

Langhe Nebbiolo 2006, De Forville, at Majestic Wine Warehouses
This Nebbiolo from a small family-run estate is a classic, approachable wine, showing the tar-and-rosewater characteristics typical of the variety. With black olive and dark cherry fruit on the palate, you could partner this with a broad range of food but would drink particularly well with chicken or rabbit dishes.

This non-vintage cuvée displays fine bubbles,is well-rounded and yet fresh, with a hint of flowers and dough.

Sophisticated white Burgundy at a very affordable price, from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown on limestone soils in this relatively hot part of Burgundy. Well defined, buttery lemon bouquet with crisp apple fruit flavours.

Pinot Gris 2006, Cave de Turckheim, at Majestic Wine
Rich, dry and fruity, showing peaches, apricots and white blossom on the nose, echoed on the palate. With a dry, fresh finish, this wine will partner a range of foods, particularly smoked fish and meats.

Beaujolais from MajesticWine is the perfect red wine to enjoy during the summer. The lighter reds are often best enjoyed chilled and make a great alternative to many rosé wines. The more serious Beaujolais wines from the cru rated villages make a wonderful accompaniment to barbecues or garden parties.

A recent "Manager's Choice" from MajesticWine was Moulin-ß-Vent 'Les Bruyères' 2006 B. de Monceny; Showing a nose of bitter chocolate, cherries and a wonderfully constructed palate, this Beaujolais could easily be mistaken for a Pinot Noir. It is however, a good example of a Beaujolais cru famed for its fuller style and keeness to age. At this price we're really impressed by its complexity and length.

Nonetheless, one wine doth not a party make, and you'll find plenty of other well-priced, interesting wines at MajesticWine too, with something for every season, and every type of meal.
