An intense, fruity Mâcon from the fabulous Cordier estate. Crisp citrus fruit flavours combine with the richer, more rounded hazelnut and butter characteristics that are the hallmarks of this style. With its depth and concentration, this would make an excellent accompaniment to roast poultry.

Dogajolo Carpineto 2001, Toscana, at Majestic Wine Warehouse
Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are vinified separately then allowed to harmonise in oak barrels to produce a soft and intensely fruity wine.

Fermented together to give harmony to the blend, the Syrah and Viognier grapes, from very low, concentrated yields, were not oak aged to allow the full flavours of the fruit to show through. The nose shows aromatic Viognier notes of violet and bergamot, which combine with characteristic Shiraz red fruit flavours on the palate. Elegant and clean on the finish, this is ideal with casseroles and grills.

This Nebbiolo from a small family-run estate is a classic, approachable wine, showing the tar-and-rosewater characteristics typical of the variety. With black olive and dark cherry fruit on the palate, you could partner this with a broad range of food but would drink particularly well with chicken or rabbit dishes.

Produced by an outstanding co-operative, this is a lively Chardonnay showing delicious aromas of peach and acacia blossom. Fantastic when young, it has the potential to develop a more honeyed, complex palate with age. A wonderful match to creamy poultry dishes.

Valençay Le Clos du Château 2006, Claude Lafond, at Majestic Wine Warehouse
Valençay is a tiny 130 hectare cru in the heart of the Loire where the vines are planted on the sand and flint slopes to the south of the Cher River. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, the wine was matured on it's lees to add depth of flavour and a very light natural spritz. Crisp, fresh and attractively complex with aromas of white fruits and flowers, this is great on its own or with fresh lobster, sushi or fine Chinese cuisine.

Showing rich flavours of dried apricots, almonds and honey on both the nose and palate, this is a concentrated yet delicate wine. The delicious sweetness of ripe peaches is balanced by fine, fresh acidity on the lingering finish. Excellent with fruit-based puddings.

Brothers Bruno and Vincent de Bez produce increasingly sought after wines at this 18th century château on the left bank of the southern Rhône. Wonderfully fresh, zesty, aromatic fruit with good acidity and length. Ideal with most fish dishes, especially 'meatier' fish such as monkfish, swordfish and tuna.

Domaine Caillaubert Sauvignon 2006, Vin de Pays des Côtes de Gascogne, at Majestic Wine
A gorgeously fresh floral nose is followed by a crisp palate with mineral nuances and zesty citrus fruits. Serve chilled as an apéritif, or with coarse fish such as perch, within the wine's first 2 years.
