Fine garnet colour with a faintly terracotta rim. Exemplary vanilla nose, quite austere but with sloes, mulberries and spice behind. Well cooked curranty fruit on the palate, dry and elegant with great fruitcake richness and a fine long finish.

Beaujolais Villages 2005, Château de Maladrets, at MajesticWine
Produced from grapes grown on low-yielding, old vines that give wines with more body and complexity than ordinarily expected from Beaujolais Villages. Deep purple in colour with intense, blackcurrant aromas. Soft, rounded and juicy on the palate, showing elegant berry fruit flavours and a hint of white pepper. Fantastic lightly chilled and accompanied by cold meats, poultry or pork.

Beaune 1er Cru Les Toussaints 2003, Albert Morot, at MajesticWine
An excellent example of 1er Cru Beaune made with hand selected grapes from fourty year old vines. The wine is aged in both new and old wood for 16 months and then bottled without filtration. The nose shows expressive notes of cherry, raspberry, leather and liquorice, with good density on the palate. The finish is persistent with a hint of minerality. Excellent when drunk with regional French cheeses.

From a small, family-owned vineyard that employs a chemical-free approach to viticulture, comes this fresh, fruity Chardonnay. Unoaked to retain optimum fruit flavours, the nose shows crisp, citrus fruit aromas that develop into a more honeyed, pear-flavoured palate. Clean and fresh on the finish. Perfect with seafood and white meat dishes.
